  • ABSTRACT: This study, based on theoretical and empirical study aims, to systematize and summarize the key challenges in CIO managers in the management of modern information technologies in universities. The study asserts the author's thesis that the effective management of information technology in modern universities require specific mix of technical, educational, managerial skills to enable CIO manager to achieve the strategic goals of the university, combining modern business, IT and educational approaches in terms of resource scarcity and increased competitive pressure. The analysis of the challenges facing IT management in universities used data from existing analyzes and research of leading specialized consulting companies, publicly available data on the investigated problems, results of a survey on the topic (31.10-30.11.2016), as well as information from interviews and informal talks with representatives of the academic IT management and personal experiences of the author as managing the processes in the Academy of Economics in the period 2007-2015 -line survey was conducted through Google Forms tool of Google Docs, and the data are processed and presented in the form of tables and charts by using MS Office Excel 2016.
